Biography

Andy Savours is a Mercury Prize–shortlisted producer, engineer, and mixer who works out of his own studio in London.

He trained under legendary producers Alan Moulder and Flood at Assault & Battery Studios for seven years, which quickly put him in the engineering hot seat on projects with Sigur Rós, The Horrors, Arctic Monkeys, and The Killers. After branching out on his own, he engineered My Bloody Valentine’s long-awaited follow-up to Loveless, mbv, as well as Ray Davies’ See My Friends album, and contributed programming/engineering to Goldfrapp’s Silver Eye.

Establishing himself as a mixer with clients such as Róisín Murphy, PNAU, and The Kills, Andy went on to produce records for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Cloud Boat, The Magic Gang, and DZ Deathrays.


Recently, Andy has continued to balance high-profile projects with developing new talent. He produced, engineered and mixed the critically acclaimed debut record for Black Country, New Road, For the first time, which was shortlisted for the 2021 Mercury Prize. He has produced and mixed for Domino Records signings Sorry, plus singles and EPs for Baba Ali, FUR, and Joan, added production and mixed Liz Lawrence’s Pity Party album, and produced/mixed The KVB’s Unity LP for Invada Records. He has also been recording a new album for My Bloody Valentine and worked with Kevin Shields on the vinyl remasters of Loveless and Isn’t Anything. His mixing work has included records for Peter Perrett, Dream Wife, Rina Sawayama, as well as the debut albums for Mush (Memphis Industries),  and Australian band Floodlights.

In 2023/24, Andy produced and the debut album for Do Nothing and album’s for Feet and Crows. This year, Andy produced/mixed Eaves Wilder’s debut album for Secretly Canadian, worked with The Twilight Sad on their long awaited new record, and helped make Fat Dog’s latest singles ‘Pray to that’ and ‘Peace Song’. He also spent time helping develop AMF records much hyped new signing Dove Ellis.


At the start of 2019 Andy set up a Modal Studios in the historic Battery Studios building in Willesden. Packed with an extensive collection of recording equipment, microphones, instruments, amps and his large synth collection, it is big enough to track full bands but equally suited for programming, overdubbing and mixing. Since its opening Andy has used Modal as a space to develop new artists as well as give more established musicians a great place to experiment.


Andy’s electronic project Frere recently released their “Hands Closing’ and ‘Big Hug’ EP’s on TOURIST’s Monday records. He is also one half of the electronic folk duo Malpas, who released their debut album, ‘Rain River Sea’, on Killing Moon Records, and YEBO Records in the US.
